Day 44

It's been a bit of a madcap, sad weekend, our good friends of many, are shifting back to the US and after a few farewells with trips around Australia in between, they finally flew out on Sunday.  It was a nice weekend with a lovely winters afternoon at the beach and almost all of us swimming at some stage, and then a final goodbye first thing Sunday morning, with a run for Kristin and I watching the sun rise over Manly Beach and then a spur of the moment swim in the sea in our running gear, floating on our backs, arms asplayed, soaking it in.

So folks, I'm a wee bit empty, so my learning for today is as unchallenging as you'll come by in my year of self improvement.  With thanks to Claire on Masterchef and her rhubarb puree -

Is rhubarb a fruit or a vegetable.........??????

Well actually rhubarb is a vegetable!  It originated in Asia over 2,000 years ago and was initially cultivated for its medicinal qualities. Rhubarb is often commonly mistaken to be a fruit but it actually is a close relative of garden sorrel, and is therefore a member of the vegetable family. I wouldn't have picked it!  Did you?

More challenging tomorrow - but we learnt something right?

  2. Sister,
Of course Rhubarb is a vegetable ... The fruit of a plant contains it's seeds ie a tomato is actually a fruit so is an eggplant. Rhubarb is a leaf stalk ( petiole )Here endith the lesson !
